FAQs

HOW ARE MAJO CANDLES MADE?

Our unique, paraffin wax candles are made using centuries-old, traditional candle-making techniques, we have mastered a way of pouring huge quantities of molten wax into giant moulds to create our exclusive, oversize candles. Each candle is handmade and hand-finished which means that no two are the same. These minor variations and imperfections simply add to their unique charm. To own a MAJO candle is to possess a unique, handcrafted work of art which will bring a magical atmosphere to your outdoor gatherings for many years to come.

HOW DOES MY MAJO CANDLE STAY ALIGHT EVEN IN WIND AND LIGHT RAIN?

A combination of the unique composition of the paraffin wax we use and the extra thickness of the wick means that a MAJO candle will stay alight even in wind and light rain. This unique ability to burn through the most challenging of conditions makes them ideal for outside use, and – of course – keeps them in high demand with our customers.

WHERE CAN I PLACE MY MAJO CANDLE?

Your MAJO candle can be placed on any flat, non-flammable surface. We don't advise putting it on a metal surface because this could cause the wax to melt in extremely hot weather. Each of our candles comes with a complimentary stone plate which gives it a solid foundation to help keep it in place. We recommend grouping the candles at the entrance of the garden or placing them around a summer house or terrace to create a welcoming glow as your guests arrive.

HOW DO I LIGHT MY MAJO CANDLE?

Because of the extra-thick wick on our candles, we recommend using our jet-flame gas lighter to light them. An easy way to create a magical glow in your garden and set the scene for the perfect evening.

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO PUT MY CANDLE OUT?

When it comes to putting out your MAJO candles at the end of the evening, our  polished chrome snuffer is the perfect tool for the job. Simply place the end of the snuffer over the lit wick to ensure the flame is fully extinguished and any smoke contained. Make sure to hold the snuffer over the wick until there is no smoke and never leave a smoking candle unattended - they can reignite!

CAN I LEAVE MY CANDLE OUTSIDE ALL YEAR ROUND?

Our candles are designed to be enjoyed outside during the warmer months. We use a specific wax formulation with a higher melting point to prevent the candles melting in the sun. For this reason, it’s also possible that a quick drop in temperature or temperatures below 10 C could cause your candle to crack. We recommend keeping your candle well insulated in cold weather or bringing it inside for storage during colder weather.

Your MAJO Candle will change colour over time if left outside, but we think this change in patina only adds to their charm.

WILL MY MAJO CANDLE MELT IN THE SUN?

Our candles are specifically made from a wax composition with a higher melting point than that of most indoor candles, which means, if standing on a stone or ceramic plate outside and not in direct contact with metal they will not melt in the sun. We do not recommend keeping them under glass or any surface that can amplify the sun's effect.

WILL STRONG WINDS AFFECT THE BURN TIME OF MY CANDLE?

Yes, exposure to wind can slightly decrease the overall burn time of your MAJO candle, but we are confident that you will still be impressed by the life of your candle. Our 1 metre tall RUMI candle can achieve a burn time of more than 600 hours in normal conditions.

CAN I USE MY MAJO CANDLE INDOORS?

Because our candles have been specially crafted for outdoor use, we would recommend that you don't use them indoors. The large flame from our oversize wick can produce soot and smoke that makes our candles unsuitable for use inside the house.
